Non-renewable energy sources

In the world we live in, there are many different types of energy sources. These resources include Oil, Oil, Coal, as well as Hydropower. However, there are some energy sources that are not renewable. These sources are difficult to substitute by natural processes. These energy resources are frequently referred as non-renewable. It is therefore important to find alternative energy sources. Let's take a look at some examples of these types of resources.

Natural gas

The U.S. has an extensive natural gas use. Texas is the country's largest natural gas user. It uses 52% of its natural gas to produce electricity. Texas has a large number of people, businesses, and industries, so natural gas is crucial for the state. California follows Texas, although it uses 54% less natural gases than Texas. Natural gas is not renewable and it can be hard to store.

Oil

Many people think that oil is not a source of renewable energy. Even though it has a high net energy return, there are still negative impacts. Global warming and air pollution can be caused by oil burning. This is also one cause of smog. The burning of oil in power plants, industrial plants, or cars is the main cause of pollution. When oil is burned it releases harmful toxins to the atmosphere. It also emits carbon dioxide, which is a greenhouse-gas.

Coal

Coal is a non-renewable energy source that takes millions of years to create. Coal is a solidified sedimentary rock that can be used to make combustible coal. It consists mainly of carbon and hydrocarbons. This fossil fuel was formed from the remains of prehistoric animals, plants, and plants. Coal is one of the fossil fuel families and is used in electricity production, transportation and heating. Here are some facts regarding coal.

Hydropower

Hydropower, an old source of non-renewable power that can be used for electricity generation, is an example. In the U.S., the first hydroelectric dam was built in Appleton, Wis. Hydroelectric dams were revolutionary in their day, and the idea quickly spread across the nation. Famous dams from the West, like the Hoover Dam, provided 40% of the country's electricity in the 1930s.

Nuclear energy

Although nuclear energy has many benefits it is non-renewable. This is due in part to the limited amount of uranium available on earth. A source of uranium must be renewable if it is to be sustained for a significant amount of time. Uranium is classified by U.S. Department of Energy (US DOE) as a nonrenewable energy resource. It will not regenerate unless its source is changed.

Uranium

Uranium can be found in large quantities in the earth's crust. However, it is not an infinite resource. It must be mined, used, and eventually disposed of. It is a fissile energy and produces no carbon emissions. Use of uranium to power nuclear reactors generates heat, which is then used to power turbines and produce electricity. Uranium is not toxic like other fossil fuels.
